We have shown you before what we have created with the Virtuemart product attributes. Here is another nice example of how you can display your attributes. The colours are stored in the product attributes and are displayed as icons. If you click on one colour, the attribute will be (obviously) selected and the product image will be updated. You can see it in these screenshots or on the livesite:
